                                        DO YOU WANT TO BECOME A FENCING COACH?

                                         

                                        Is it your ambition to train as a fencing coach?  Or do you like the idea of taking your fencing in a new direction?  Or do you want to simply improve you existing coaching skills? Whether it is your ambition to become a fencing master or coach of champions or you simply feel this is the time for a new challenge, undertaking coach training can bring you many benefits, among which are:

                                        FOUR OF CLUBS COACH EDUCATION PROGRAMME

                                         

                                        Four of Clubs is almost unique in that we have a structured Coach Education programme running alongside fencing in the club.  Our scheme is open to all who are interested fencing. We welcome coaches from other clubs to our training sessions. 

                                         

                                        Our director of coach education is Professor Philip Bruce:

                                        o       President of the British Academy of Fencing

                                        o       Member of the Académie d’Armes Internationale

                                        o       Former England Senior Team Manager/Coach and National Under 20’s Epée Coach

                                        o       Former coach to a number of fencers who have represented Great Britain in the World Championships at Cadet, Under 20 and Senior levels. 

                                        o       Former Member of the Board of Directors of the British Fencing Association.

                                         

                                        We offer three coaching schemes:

                                        o       Coaches Club

                                        o       Working Pupils Scheme

                                        o       Apprenticeship Scheme (13 - 18 year olds)

                                         

                                         

                                         

                                        COACHES CLUB

                                        Monthly training sessions

                                        ·        Times        Once a month (usually Sundays) 10am - 4 pm

                                        Cost    £25 per session or £110 / block of 5 sessions

                                        ·        Pupils        Coaches may bring their own pupil to work with at an extra charge of £10

                                        ·        Location    Westwood College, Leek

                                        ·        Tutor         P Bruce

                                        ·        Course includes

                                        o       Guided practice for BAF exams all levels from Level 1 to Diploma

                                        o       Class and individual lesson practice

                                        o       Acquisition of key ‘Master Skills’

                                        o       Preparation, as appropriate, for BAF Residential Courses

                                        o       Free support material for Four of Clubs members

                                         

                                         

                                         

                                         

                                         

                                         

                                         

                                         

                                         

                                        WORKING PUPIL SCHEME

                                         

                                        ·        Qualification

                                        o       Hold a BAF Gold proficiency award in the weapon concerned

                                         

                                        ·        Times       

                                        o       Mondays 5 pm - 6 pm  Supervised practice (Prof. I. Combes)

                                        o       Mondays 6pm - 8pm    Club activities (Prof. I. Combes)

                                        o       Sunday (Once a month)            10 am to 4pm as above (Prof. P. Bruce)

                                         

                                        ·        Cost         

                                        o       Weekly (Monday) sessions - £52 for a 10 week course (discounts are available for those who pass BAF exams on our course).

                                        o       Monthly (Sunday) sessions  £10 / session,

                                         

                                        ·        Equipment: All trainees must provide their own fencing equipment including coaching plastron (sleeve and leg as appropriate)

                                         

                                        ·        Additional Benefits:

                                        o       £15 discount on Monthly session, first BAF exam fees paid, 10% subsidy on first BAF Denstone Course, discounts on Four of Clubs personal performance courses.

                                        o       BAF Key Teaching Points books and all course material is included free of charge.

                                         

                                        ·        Course includes

                                        o       Working as assistant coach at Fenton Manor

                                        o       Assisting in the BAF Proficiency Awards scheme and Exams

                                        o       Responsibility for specific beginner fencers

                                         

                                         

                                         

                                        APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

                                         

                                        ·        Attendance & Qualification

                                        o       By invitation only

                                        o       Hold Silver Proficiency Award in at least one weapon

                                        o       Open to Junior fencers aged between 13 and 18 years old

                                         

                                        ·        Cost: There is no additional cost for attendance at the monthly coach education sessions.

                                         

                                        ·        Equipment: All participants must have their own fencing equipment including one of each of the three weapons (foil, sabre and epee)

                                         

                                         

                                        ·        Course involves

                                        o       Participating as pupils on monthly sessions (10 am - 4pm one Sunday per month)

                                        o       Support in developing as competitive fencers

                                        o       Learning the basics of all three fencing weapons

                                        o       17 - 18 years old begin training as a coach and preparing for BAF exams

                                        o       Working towards BAF Proficiency Awards

                                        o       Improved personal performance

                                        o       Opportunity to begin to understand the key points of teaching fencing.

                                        o       Learning Fencing terminology and Rules

                                        o       GCSE / Duke of Edinburgh training requirements may be incorporated into this course upon request
